Retired Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Jack Pope began to acquire photographs of Texas appellate court judges in 1982 when he purchased the originals and negatives used in Ocie Speer's pictorial work, TEXAS JURISTS (Austin, 1936), from W. L. Thompson, a principal of Steck Publishing of Austin, Tex., the book's publisher.
